Arts Festival

            Arts Festival is one of the most popular festivals for several reasons. First of all, families and their children visit State College to enjoy this event during summer. For example, during my studies in State College, I can rarely see children and families; However, when the art festival arrived, families and children could be seen all over Penn State's campus. Second, this art festival has many cultural items. For instance, there are African American accessories such as colorful hand bands and hair dress that are made from feathers. Additionally, you can see modern American sculptures that are made by students. Moreover, some of the beautiful items that are displayed are actually made from recycled or reused materials. In fact, some these items deserved to be called masterpieces just because they are made of object that once were junk. In conclusion, the art festival is one of the most popular festivals that occurs during summer, and which not only attracts a lot of artists to display and sometimes sell their art work but also families, children and students whether local or international.

Living in a Big City Is Better Than Living in a Small Town

In my opinion, living in a big city is better than living in a small town. First of all, a big city has many government buildings and ministries. These buildings facilitate solving issues for the citizens such as acquiring visas and passports . For example, in my country, if I want to travel to United States, I go to the Embassy of the United States in Muscat, which is a big city, to obtain the US visa. Moreover, a big city has many heritage museums. This makes it easier for tourist to learn more about Oman it. For instance, last year my friend came to visit me in Muscat. He is from Saudi Arabia. We went to Bait Al-Zubair museum which has a lot of Oman’s cultural items such as the famous Omani Khenjar , pottery and hunting weapons. In conclusion, living in big city has more benefits for you than living in a small town.

Colors of Life

Colors of Life

            This water-painted picture, painted by Vincent Pour Vous in 2013, is one of my favorite pictures for two reasons. First of all, it has beautiful colors. For example, the picture is divided into two portions : the first portion of the picture is colored and the other portions is in black and white. In addition, in the background, the painter used the black and white color technique to draw the flowers’ outline. On the left side of the picture, you can see vividly colored flowers with different floral shapes. Second, the woman’s hand which pops out into my eyes whenever I look at the photo. For instance, at the top right corner, there is a woman’s hand carrying a photo of a gentleman. Also, the woman’s hand has a beautiful henna design. In conclusion, I chose this picture because it represents the colors of life. Also, it provoked my emotions of grief because the woman wants to put the man’s photo among the flowers.

Popular Place Paragraph

Popular Place

This is a picture of a popular place. A display case is located at the top left corner of the picture. The display case is white and has four shelves. Next to the display case is the radio. It looks like a brown bag. Beside the black board is the thermostat. It has white, red,  and black colors which looks like the controller of the PS3. At the right part of the picture, you can see the coffee pot. It is black. In front of the black board is the waiter, and he looks like he is 37 years old. Furthermore, he is wearing a white T-shirt, and he is smoking cigarette. Behind the counter are the police man and boy. The police man looks like he is 23 years old, and he is wearing a police uniform. The boy looks like he is 11 years old, and he is wearing a yellow t-shirt. Under the boy on the floor is a red knapsack. In conclusion, this picture has a variety of objects and people of different ages. In my opinion, it is a funny picture because it seems that the boy is telling a story that is drawing the police man's and the waiter's attention.

How to Cook Makboos

How to Cook Makboos

            There are several steps to cook Makboos. The first step is going to Wegmans or Walmart  to buy Chicken, rice, tomatoes, potato, spices, and onion. After that, put three cups of rice in a bowl and add four cups of water. When I need to cook for me and my roommate, I usually cook three cups of rice because that amount is enough for us. Third, put the chicken in a separate bowl and wash it thoroughly. Then marinate it with salt. It is important to clean the chicken very well . Next, put the chicken in the pot without the lid and add the amount you desire of : black pepper, curry powder, salt, diced onion, chopped tomato, chicken spices, and garlic. Now turn on the burner to medium. After 30 minutes, add the rice on to the chicken or put the chicken in the oven for 10 minutes. Now put the rice in the pot where the chicken cook for 37 minutes. Now you have the rice and chicken ready. Put the rice and chicken together on the serving plate. At the end, following these steps will result in a delicious meal called Makboos.

My Mother paragraph

My Mother

My mother is important to me for several reasons. First, she advised me when I was child. For example, when I was a child, I played soccer at 2:00 pm. In my country, the temperature reaches 45 C so, she told me not to play at 2:00 pm because it is dangerous for my health. Also, she helped me pick good friends and telled me who the bad friends ware, so I cod keep away from them. Third, she helped me and takes care of me. For instance, when I studied in high school last year, she reviewed the material with me before all the tests that I had, and she sat with me for two months at a hospital when I had an operation. In conclusion, my mother is one of the most important people in my life because she advises me to keep away from dangerous risks. Moreover, she teaches me about how to know the difference between the good friends and bad ones. She is a person that I can always depend on in my life.

The HUB

The HUB

The HUB

            The HUB is one of student's favorite destinations on campus. It has a lot of facilitie and students can do a lot of different activities there. First, there are a lot of restaurants, and they all accept points and lion cash. For example, when students don’t have enough time to go back home and cook, they can find food at Sbarro, Panda Express and Chick Fila. Also, students can  study at one of the study places there. If students want a place to study other than the library, they can study at the HUB instead. Second, the HUB is a good place to meet with people. The HUB is  perfect for socializing because it has a lot of chairs and meeting rooms. For example, the HUB is where big events take place, especially at Heritage Hall and Alumni Hall. In addition to that, the building has a gaming station that has pool tables, video games and a dancing game. There is also a big screen where people sometimes gather to watch sports and news. Finally, the HUB is located in the middle of campus, which makes it easy to get to. In conclusion, the HUB is one of student's favorite places because it is a good place to meet new people and for the facilities it has.

            Hello, I’m Salim AL-ALAWI. I'm from Oman. I was born in Jalan, and now I’m 19 years old. I came to the United States five months ago. Now I am studying English at the IECP. I live with my friends. I went to high school in Saudi Arabia. My family lives in Saudi Arabia. I have two brothers and four sisters. I love my family. I speak Arabic. And I am learning English. I like to watch movies and play sports. For example, I like soccer and swimming. Moreover, I like riding horses.
